Harboring Unforgiveness

I was recently gifted a Cultivate What Matter's Write the Word journal, Cultivate Joy. Today's verse, Proverbs 17:9, really hit home:

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends.

Wow. How many relationships have ended because of unforgiveness? Because of pride? Our egos are fragile. Why lose a treasured connection with a loved one over hurts that you cannot even remember the origin of?

I know this is hard. Believe me. I've lived it out on more than one occasion. You'd think I would have learned my lesson by now but in writing this post, I see why this verse truly hit home. I've been harboring unforgiveness.

Here me when I say holding on to past hurts hurts you most of all. Let go and let God. Pray that God will help you forgive that person. Reach out to that person if necessary. Life is too short to let our egos sit in the driver's seats of our lives. And know this, God forgave us. When we were still sinners, Jesus died for us (Romans 5:8). We continuously hurt God and yet, He continuously forgives us. We are called to love and forgive, just like our Father.

I love you and Jesus does too!
